Riding Fire & Ice

This North Atlantic island is located exactly on the Atlantic ridge which separates Europe and North America. It is sparsely populated and famous for its hot springs, geysers, waterfalls, active volcanoes and huge Glaciers, including the largest one in Europe.
This “around the island” tour will give us a fantastic taste of all of this – from the Lava beaches in the south to the whales and fishery industry in the north. From the Fjords in the east to the Capital Reykjavik in the west. From climbing glaciers to standing on the continental divide… this tour and this Island is like nothing you’ve seen before!

Day 1: Welcome to Iceland

Upon arrival in Reykjavik, you will be transferred to the pickup of your bike, and then a short drive to the hotel outside of the city.

Day 2

From Reykjavik we will take a scenic route towards the Thingvellir Lake National Park, a site of historical, geological and cultural importance and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Iceland. From there we head to the breathtaking lookout of Geysir and Gulfoss waterfall. The remainder of the day we will ride through the countryside until we arrive in the village of Hela where we will be staying the night.

Day 3

After breakfast we will continue riding along the southern coast. We will stop for a walk and visit some waterfalls along the way, each one more spectacular than the last, take a dip in the oldest natural hot spring in Iceland and pass at the foot of two well-known glaciers, just to name a few. During our lunch stop in Vik, we will also experience the picturesque basalt beach of Reynisdrangar and the magnificent cliff of Dyrholaey. We will continue on our journey through the infinite desert, enjoy the impressive mountain landscape, finally reaching the largest glacier in Europe Vatnajökull. Our accommodations tonight will be on the beach at the foot of the iceberg. The beach and the foot of the iceberg.

Day 4

After refueling our bodies with a delicious breakfast and coffee, we will ride to the amazing ice lagoon with all its beauty, and sail between fragments of floating glaciers. We will continue riding along the vast glacier Wataniukul towards the fjords in eastern Iceland. Get ready for spectacular mountain views riding through the beautiful fjords, dirt roads and on of the largest forests (and nearly the only one) of Iceland. Our final destination today is the “capital city” of the East Egilstadir, where we are spending the night.

Day 5

Today we will travel northwest to the northern district where we will enjoy the sight of the most powerful waterfall in Europe, Dettifoss and later Asbyrgi Canyon. In the afternoon we arrive at Lake Myvatn situated in an area of active volcanism and surrounded by spectacular volcanic landforms. We will spend the next 2 nighs in a secluded hotel in the midst of this sensational nature.

Day 6

We will head toward the capital of the northern and second largest region of Iceland – Akureyri. There we will spend the morning until continuing towards Huswick, where we’ll try our luck and hop on a boat to do some whale watching. We’ll stop at Godafoss, the most magnificent waterfall of Iceland and return to the same hotel for an additional night stay.

Day 7

After breakfast we will get back on the road and start heading west through villages, mountains, valleys and sea. We will pass over to the Snaefellsnes peninsula with its wondrous glacier at its tip on a summit that stands almost a mile above the sea. We’ll ride around the glacier and drive along the peninsula where we will stay for the night.

Day 8

Start the day by riding along the volcanoes of the Snaefellssnes Peninsula. Then we’ll take two short detours to enjoy more of the roads and the picturesque “whale fjord”. Later in the day we will arrive in the area of Reykjavik where we will check into our hotel outside of the city where we will end our journey on 2 wheels.

Day 9

In the morning we will go to Reykjavik to return the bikes and have a free day in the capital of Iceland. After our farewell dinner we will head for the airport for takeoff.
