TOUR ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival at Cluj Napoca – Torda
Welcome to Romania! First things first, we will all meet around noon in the city of Cluj-Napoca, the second largest in Romania. From there we take a shuttle to the motorcycle rental agency towards Torda, where we pick up our wheels. We will spend the afternoon riding around getting accustomed to our bikes and the surrounding area. Accomodations: Torda
Day 2: Torda – Sighisoara
What a beautiful ride we have in store for us through the diverse landscapes of Transylvania. Traveling on small side roads between and through villages rich with classical European culture that seem to have stopped in time. We will end our day in the ancient walled city of Sighisoara, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with a glass of Tuica and an authentic Romanian cuisine in a superb restaurant. Accommodations: Sighisoara
Day 3: Sighisoara – Brasov
Today is Transylvania at its finest! Riding through scattered villages, back dirt roads, high ridges and over hillsides where each path reveals the beautiful simplicity of Romanian culture that has yet to advance to the 21st century. Endless views of vast fields that play a significant role in the entire European ecosystem and fortified churches and castles of the Saxon culture that settled here. Only to end our day in Brasov, one of the oldest and most important cities in Romania. Accommodation: Brasov
Day 4: Brasov – Sinaia – Lake Bulboci – Brasov
We will cross the Prahova Valley, through the Carpathian Mountains and down to the town of Sinaia, for a visit at the Peles castle situated deep in the forest at the foot of the mountains. A feast for the architectural eye, the castle was built with dozens of types of wood, stained glass, marble, intricate carpets, rich library, music and more. Not description can really do it justice, as it is probably one of the most beautiful castles in Europe and most definitely in Romania. We will begin to ascend towards Lake Bolboci in the Bucegi Mountains on an amazing narrow road from the forest to the alpine peaks where all is covered in snow. There we will reach a magical hidden church in the mountains. Accommodations: Brasov
Day 5: Brasov – Transfăgărășan – Maldaresti
After a great breakfast we will load up the chase van and head out. After about an hour of riding we leave the hotel. After about an hour of riding, we will start climbing up one of the most beautiful roads that Romania has to offer, The Transfăgărășan. Construction of this extremely high mountain pass was ordered by the dictator Ceausescu to ensure quick military access across the mountains in case of a Soviet invasion. The road came at high costs and was quite a feat to build, working in harsh alpine conditions. But we get to reap the benefits, climbing to altitudes of 6700 ft, with long S-curves and hairpin turns. Wow what a road and what a day of beautiful riding. Accomodation: Maldaresti
Day 6: Maldaresti- Transalpina – Sibiu
Today we ride out of the Carpathians and move our way north. The ride will be very different from the Tran today from south to north. Very different from Transfagarasan, but no less spectacular. An ancient road hidden in nature at altitudes of 7000 ft that has been newly paved is a dream for our bikes. We will be twisting and turning on this beautiful route until we arrive in the college town of Sibiu, declared the cultural capital of Europe in 2007. There are some Lively bars, clubs and restaurants spending our last night how it should be! Accommodation: Sibiu
Day 7: Sibiu – Torda – Cluj Napoca – End of the trip!
The day opens with a beautiful route that will take us back to Transylvania with its rolling hills and the Carpathian Mountains in the background. Returning to the villages of the Saxons, we will change it up a bit with a diversion on lush dirt roads between the forests and the green pastures. Later we will meet Romanian Gypsies who will host us in the best tradition of their village. This will surely be a kind of separation from Romania, from the people, and from a time that is lost. Now…back to the future, we will return the motorcycles and spend the last night in Cluj Napoca.
